Without teamwork where would the human race be?  Teamwork can be shared with just two people with a goal, yet is essential in a community. With teamwork we can make dreams come true in performing arts.

I am involved with a cast of 38 actors, singers and dancers in Stage Door Productions who have formed a team as we rehearse for “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat.” Director Stephanie Anne Johnson has led us through weeks of vocal preparation and I must say, as a “choral snob‚“ our sound rivals that of a seasoned touring cast.

The part of The Narrator will be played by Bonnie Azzelino. Bonnie has been singing all her life and is president of Cascade Foothills Chorale. Bonnie has participated in Andrew T. Miller’s “The Birth of Christ‚“ at the Vatican and in Scotland and England with the St. Andres Chamber Choir.

I recall when SDP presented “Oklahoma!” a few years back. The young man who played the character, Curly, was 15-year-old Brodi Bateman of Buckley. Through directing and his natural stage presence, Brodi was able to convince the audience he had rented that special surrey with the fringe on top for his girl Laurey.

Since then, Brodi graduated from White River High School and Pierce College as Phi Theta Kappa. He has done more than 10 plays including three musicals, three ballets, two radio shows and directed one play.

Bateman secured the role of Joseph, Jacob’s favorite son. If you recall in the Old Testament, Jacob gave Joseph a multicolored coat and it made his 11 brothers jealous. It has become a favorite story of humility, love, forgiveness and triumph. Beginning as a 15-minute play in Great Britain created for Sunday school classes, “Joseph” grew into a musical with the brilliance of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. This play is campy and fun, but it never loses its intended message.

Tim Fleming, WRHS instrumental director, will show his versatility by playing the pharaoh. You will not believe your ears or eyes when you see Fleming master the stage as the mighty pharaoh.  “Joseph“ also will feature a youth choir and a four-legged guest star named Nevada that will make a brief appearance.

Let “Joseph” entertain you at the WRHS theater. The curtain rises at 7:30 p.m. April 14, 15, 16, 17, 21, 22 and 23. There will be 2 p.m. matinees April 16, 17 and 23.
