The city of Enumclaw’s Cultural Programs office announces the premier of “10 Decades: The People of Enumclaw.”

The movie will first show at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Chalet Theater, 1721 Wells St. in Enumclaw. The screening is free and open to the public.

There will be a red carpet photo wall and a photographer ready to snap photographs and guest arrive.

“Ten Decades” is filled with heartfelt stories that come from local residents. The stories tell of the ingenuity and proud determination of Enumclaw’s citizens, the impact of the dairy industry and the dynamic lives of those who worked in the logging industry. All the vignettes express Enumclaw’s values of cooperation, hard work and caring for one another.

The idea for a film started with the celebration of Enumclaw’s Centennial. 4Culture’s Site Specific program and the city of Enumclaw funded the project and invited award-winning filmmakers Staci Bernstein and Jane Kaplan to take the creative helm.

Building the team began with an invitation to the local community to volunteer and participate. A location scout turned up picturesque and historical places where filming could take place.

“Working with the community proved to be far more exciting and rewarding than we had ever imagined,” Bernstein said.

Loggers drove in heavy equipment and farmers brought cows. Community members became vital parts of the team, volunteering their time, housing, food, photographs and acting talent.

The community team came together with professionals from the Seattle area to shoot for three days in August 2012. The cast and crew filmed at various locations in and around Enumclaw, including the Expo Center Fieldhouse, Collectables on Cole and the Sales Pavilion. Many months of post production followed to edit the film into the finished piece.

After the premiere the movie will be available online for all to share.

The Cultural Programs office is a division of the Enumclaw Parks and Recreation Department.
