Photo: A smattering of snow dusted the Plateau Sunday morning, just enough to allow kids of all ages to do some sledding and build a snowman. A bit higher, the snow was a bit heavier. Here, a family enjoys a few inches at The Dalles campground east of Enumclaw. More winter weather – a bit of snow and slick roads – caused school to be delayed Monday.

Believe it or not, Britton Lorentzen is a trophy-winning go-cart driver with big plans to follow in the footsteps of the NASCAR Nextel Cup Rookie of the Year – Enumclaw’s Kasey Kahne. Ask any horse or owner where Dorothy Woodcock’s Trailhead Gifts is and they will point toward a small wooden cabin decorated with copper weather vanes and stained wooden horse sculptures at the south end of Southeast 424th Street, where several horse trails begin. Woodcock always has sodas, sandwiches and alfalfa on hand during the summer for the 40-plus riders and their mounts who stop by her shop daily before heading up into the hills. Her one-room cabin, warmed by a wood stove, has grown into a gift shop since she had it built in 1993.

New arrangements at the city hall which are expected to greatly expedite calls to the Police Department and the Fire Department were announced this week by Mayor John R. Selland. Mayor Selland disclosed that the employment of five additional men and women will make possible the round-the-clock manning of the fire and police switchboard and thereby eliminating the confusion and antiquated methods of communications heretofore existing.

At a meeting held last Saturday, stockholders of the Enumclaw Rochdale Company approved the sale of the former Rochdale store building to the owners of the Enumclaw Food Center, and voted unanimously to institute proceedings for the dissolution of the Rochdale company. The Enumclaw Food Center has been conducting its business in the former Rochdale building for the past three years and the stockholders’ action will consummate purchase negotiations which have extended over several moths.

Miss Emma Ronning and George Kranc were quietly married in Seattle this week. The ceremony took place at noon with Mr. and Mrs. William Donavan and Louise Kranc being the only relatives in attendance. They left the same day by motor for Los Angeles where they will spend a couple of weeks, making the return trip by boat.

Mrs. Sonny Bellack and daughter, Shirley, of Krain were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Osborn on Friday.

Enumclaw escaped the past week’s snow storms without any serious casualties or accidents. The storms brought a total of eight inches of snow, the most recorded for the past few years.

Plans have been completed by a group of Enumclaw ski enthusiasts for an excursion to Stampede by train from Kanaskat. The trip will be in heated and lighted recreational cars. Cabins will be provided at Stampede.
