Buckley country singing sensation Blaine Larsen isn’t a betting man, but he and a couple of Nashville music producers are gambling his latest single will pick up some air time at radio stations across the country. “We’re just throwing it out there,” Larsen said, and added, “ I just have a good feeling about it.” The threesome – Larsen and Nashville producers Tim Johnson and Rory Lee – are placing his independent “In My High School” single on a CD scheduled to arrive at radio stations across the country Jan. 26 and expect to hit airwaves the first week of February.
Because sporting goods have been difficult to find on the Plateau, Gregg Joshlin recently opened 4Suns Sports in Enumclaw. Joshlin, who owns the store with his wife Monet, also is working with Jennifer Kohler, who will provide custom screen-printing and embroidery for uniforms. The store, which opened Dec. 20, focuses on selling equipment and apparel for football, basketball, baseball and soccer, although Joshlin may add swimming and wrestling within the year due to a large interest.

John and Isabell Kaelin of Buckley celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 25 with a trip to Palm Springs, Calif., with their six children.
Autumn Rose Baker belted out a song at the Auburn Avenue Theater. The Enumclaw Middle School seventh-grader has cut her first album in Nashville and hopes there are more to come.

Adam Stair was the winner of the Safeway Christmas Coloring Contest in the 7- to 8-year-old category. He won $10 in cash and a bag of groceries for his mother.
The White River Hornets continued to show their power in Nisqually League hoop action with a runaway 89-38 victory over the North Mason Bulldogs. The Hornets now stand 4-0 in league action and 7-1 on the season. Joe Mills led the one-sided scoring with 19 points. Other leading scorers for the Hornets were Ron Drake with 13 and John McGee with 12.

Seattle has its “Man of the Year” and Enumclaw has its “Girl of the Year.” Anne McKinnon, 11-year-old daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Paul McKinnon of Enumclaw, recently learned that she had scored the highest individual series, 1,328, in the American Junior Bowling Congress Bantam Girls Division for 1958, and had finished second for high individual game, 171. Anne compiled her high games at the Enumclaw Bowl, competing nationally against 200,000 other youngsters.
An era came to a close Monday at noon when Duane Radliff, Enumclaw attorney, became justice of the peace, replacing the veteran Judge Robert T. Montgomery who did not run for the position at the last election. Radliff will also serve as police judge, appointed by Mayor John Selland. Judge Montgomery, affectionately known as just plain “Bob,” is one of the oldest pioneers of the area, having come to this section of Washington from Scotland with his parents in 1885. He has been closely identified with the community’s growth through the years. Since 1911 he has served as a director of the First National Bank of Enumclaw and for many years was affiliated with the Enumclaw Creamery.

At the annual meeting of Rochdale Company stockholders at the Danish Hall, three directors were elected: R.T. Montgomery, Adolph Tamm and Hans Weston.
Dr. F.G. Ulman was the recipient of a surprise party Sunday morning in his honor by old-time friends, honoring the 25th anniversary of the doctor’s coming to Enumclaw. His fondness for unique pets of all kinds and his hobbies of traveling, golf and gardening have made him renowned throughout the countryside and enderared him to both old and young. During the past 25 years the good doctor has become one of the most interesting characters in Enumclaw. His generosity and ability as a general practitioner have earned him the respect and recognition as one of Enumclaw’s outstanding citizens.
Chris Stergion, accompanied by Nick Hannus of Elk, attended the wedding party and dance Saturday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Zaffee of Buckley who have just recently returned from Greece where the Zaffees were married.
