Hollywood, CA – Art Gamblin Motors of Enumclaw, Washington has swept this year’s Academy Awards for automotive excellence. Gamblin Motors took home all but a few awards with a total of eight Oscars. It was vindication for Gamblin who has been nominated many times but has come up short to big name dealerships with large budgets. Alan Gamblin, President of Art Gamblin Motors said, “It’s nice to know that the little guy can come out on top and be recognized for being the best and not just the largest. We have won awards in the past, but for the major Oscars we’ve always been the bridesmaid and never the bride.”
In the seven years Debbie Bock has lived in and owned a business in Buckley, she has always seen the potential of the town and has worked hard to make her vision materialize. But now a job change is taking Bock, the owner of Keepsakes on Main Street in Buckley, out of the area, leaving the town without one of its foremost business and revitalization promoters. Bock is turning the reigns of her business over to a new owner May 1, and will join her husband, who took a job in Everett, in their new home in Snohomish, but Bock does not make the change easily.

Members of Brownie Troop No. 954 discussed where to plant a rhododendron the troop purchased from money earned during its cookie sales this year. The troop, made up of Buckley residents, along with members of the Buckley Beautification Committee planted the rhodie Friday inside Vanderhoof Park.
The Enumclaw Sting recently won the Xonk Design 14-under National Softball Association Invite ‘A’ Tournament at Boise Creek Park.
As part of Bring Your Son/Daughter to Work Day on Thursday, Erica Simmons, a material damage appraiser for Mutual of Enumclaw, showed kids how the insurance company goes about appraising damage to a wrecked vehicle.

April 26, 1984
The Enumclaw city council, at its meeting Monday night, gave the go-ahead to acquiring new property to develop into a city park. News of the proposal came after an executive session to discuss property acquisition. The land for the park is located on the southwest corner of Farman Street and Battersby Avenue. The land totals about three acres, part of which is Weyerhaeuser right-of-way.
Risa Dean of Buckley received the fire hat after alerting family of a fire in the family home last week. She also was given a hero’s party after her quick thinking saved the family. The fire started late at night when a candle burned down igniting a paper cup and spreading in the house. Risa alerted her mother and sister and all three escaped safely. The house sustained minor damage.

Seventy-nine years is a long time in anybody’s book, but that’s the total number of years that Herman Belander and Carroll Christiansen have compiled at their market on Cole Street. The two men, who have operated the store as partners since 1938, originally went to work in the market when it was owned by Frye and Company of Seattle. Christiansen started for Frye in 1918 upon his release from World War I service, and Belander joined the organization three years later.

In order to advertise Enumclaw and the bank, the First National Bank took advantage of the opportunity that is given national banks to issue their own money. Security is put up with the Treasury Department and the money is then issued in the name of the national bank.
Louis Schonbachler, former Enumclaw resident, and for the past two years of Kent, has moved back to Enumclaw taking up residence on the Beddoe place at Fir Grove.
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Bartman of Boise called Sunday evening at the J.K. Shannon home at Krain.
