Auburn School Board president running against Chris Hurst for state house seat

Lisa Connors said if she is elected to the House she will take her passion for education and will use lessons she learned on the school board in her new role in Olympia.

Auburn School Board President Lisa Connors announced this week she will run to replace Democrat Representative Chris Hurst in the 31st legislative district.

Connors said her inspiration for public service stems from a desire to see all children succeed.

“When my older boys were in elementary school I began volunteering in the classroom,” said Connors. “That led me to volunteer with the PTA and finally to run for the school board, where I’ve enjoyed serving for five years.”

Connors said if she is elected to the House she will take her passion for education and will use lessons she learned on the school board in her new role in Olympia.

“In the Auburn School District we improved student achievement with a strategic plan and by focusing on the needs of every child,” said Connors.  “As State Representative, I will put education first.”

“Our future sits in the classrooms of our public schools today,” said Connors. “It is our responsibility to give our children the best tools available to be successful.”

Connors said she will be a more fiscally conservative vote than Hurst. She said her priorities in Olympia will be to concentrate on improving job growth, responsible state spending, and education.

Connors said she has watched how past fiscal decisions in Olympia have impacted local communities.

“It is time to change old habits in Olympia,” said Connors.

“Job growth, a vibrant economy, and world class schools will lead us back to prosperity,” said Connors.

As a parent, active member of the community, and a public servant, Connors said she has a strong desire to represent the people of her community. If elected, Connors vows to take action by aggressively carrying the concerns and needs of the 31st district to Olympia.

Lisa Connors was elected in 2007 to fill a vacancy on the Auburn School Board and was re-elected in 2009. She is currently the President of the Auburn School District Board of Directors. She has three sons, two that are school age and attend Auburn public schools.
