In 2010, the Bonney Lake Police Department began participating a voluntary drug disposal program sponsored through the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department to provide citizens a safe and secure place to drop off unused prescription medications for disposal.

Recent changes from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) now allows participating pharmacies to accept unused prescription medications from the public for disposal.  The DEA has also ended their drug take back events.

In addition, effective July 1, 2015, the facility used for free drug destruction to law enforcement agencies has discontinued this service.  Due to both of these changes, the Bonney Lake Police Department will be discontinuing the drug disposal box program effective June 8, 2015.
