The Bonney Lake Police Department is hosting a “Take Back Your Meds Day” on Nov. 3.

The event is designed to allow citizens to turn in unused or expired medication for safe disposal.

Unused medicines can be a danger to children and the environment, if not disposed of properly.

According to the police department, Washington has one of the highest rates of teen prescription drug abuse rates in the country, many of which are acquired from bathroom medicine cabinets.

In addition, medicines flushed down the toilet or put in the trash can end up contaminating surface waters, groundwater and even drinking water.

Medicines returned during the event will be disposed of properly by officials.

In addition, ID-A-Kid child identification cards will also be available at a cost of $10 per card.

Bonney Lake’s Take Back Your Meds day is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Public Safety Building, 18421 Veterans Memorial Dr. E.
