Body of missing swimmer recovered

Recovery efforts downstream from the Green Rover Gorge went underway July 6.

The King County Sheriff’s Office has located and recovered the body of a swimmer who went missing in the Green River Gorge area late last month.

The 20 year-old was presumed drowned on June 25.

Recovery efforts went underway during the early afternoon efforts of July 6; a KSCO public information officer said the body of the yet-unnamed man was found further downstream than responders initially expected, due in part to a high snowpack that has lent the Green River high and swift waters.

Those conditions also hindered recovery efforts, the PIO continued, which is why the body wasn’t located sooner.

South King Fire, Valley Regional, the Enumclaw Fire Department, and KCSO marine and air support units contributed to the rescue.
