ORIGINAL POST:

Highway 167 from Sumner to Highway 512 has been closed down due to a bomb threat, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Trooper Guy Gill said the bomb threat came in at around 11:30 this morning.

Gill said an individual stopped on the east-bound 512 ramp going towards SR 167.

The individual then approached other drivers going down the ramp, claiming he had a bomb in his vehicle.

State Patrol responded shortly afterwards and took the subject into custody without incident and closing down the highways.

“He is highly under the influence,” Gill said. “On what, we don’t know at this time, but it is clear he was highly under the influence.”

Gill also said the WSP does not believe the threat is valid, but in the interest of public safety is treating the threat as credible until it can be proven otherwise.

Gill estimated the highway will continue to be closed for the next hour.

The Courier Herald will update this story as more information becomes public.
