The City of Bonney Lake and the City of Sumner are keeping its facilities open after overnight snowfall blanketed the area.

“We’re not having any closures yet,” said Dan Grigsby, Bonney Lake public works director.

Don Morrisson, Bonney Lake city administrator said some employees may leave early, but business will continue.

“Right now we don’t have any plans to completely close,” he said.

In Sumner snowfall is light and closures aren’t necessary.

“I think we’re pretty much normal right now,” Carmen Palmer, Sumner communications director, said.

As of late morning there was a small amount on streets and most of snow was on grass.

“Down here we just have a brush on our lawns,” Palmer said.

Palmer said people should take precautions to prevent pipes from freezing. This includes keeping cabinet doors open near pipes to let warm air near and run some water through the pipes. Insulators for the faucets outside the home are beneficial against the cold.

If pipes do freeze, Palmer said people shouldn’t attempt to shut the water of themselves, because it worsen the situation if done improperly.

“Call the city for a shutoff at your meter. We just don’t want people causing further damage,” Palmer said.
