Bonney Lake Panthers fall 1-0 in state soccer championship

The Bonney Lake High Panthers fell 1-0 Saturday to Seattle Prep in the Class 3A state soccer championship game at Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood.

A spectacular run of success saw the Bonney Lake Panthers lined up against Seattle Prep Saturday afternoon, a clash of prep soccer titans that would decide the state’s Class 3A championship.

In the end, it was a slow-rolling goal that made all the difference in the 1-0 contest. The Seattle Prep squad was able to convert following a scrum in front of the Bonney Lake net in the game’s 30th minute, then held on the secure a hard-fought victory.

The game was played in near-freezing conditions at Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood on an afternoon where gusty winds helped guide any ball put into the air.

The Panthers had a good scoring opportunity early in the contest, only to see a shot clang off the crossbar. Another near miss came in the second half, when Haley Pringle’s shot off a corner kick sailed just a bit high.

Bonney Lake had advanced to the 3A finale with a 2-0 victory over Prairie High the day before. Savannah Moorehouse and Alicia Bowman had goals in the semifinal win, while Madison Adams provided two assists and Rendi Johnsoon turned in another shutout performance in goal.

During the regular season, the Panthers put together a 9-0-1 record to claim the South Puget Sound League 3A championship.
