Enumclaw Rotary Club recognizes local students
November
The Enumclaw Rotary Club recognized Victoria Schmidt, Ashlee Argott and Kelsey Smith as Students of the Month at its Nov. 19 meeting.
Schmidt, the daughter of Michelle and Troy Schmidt of Enumclaw, is the recipient from White River’s Alternative Program (Choice). She is currently a Running Start student enrolled at Green River Community College, where she is working toward an associate in arts degree and participates as an active member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. She devotes considerable time to church activities and volunteers with the National Wild Turkey Federation. She plans to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and study flight and aerospace engineering.
Argott, the daughter of Melinda and Gerry Argott of Enumclaw, is the recipient from Enumclaw High School. She has taken college preparation courses while at EHS, participated in the choral program for the past four years and served as a cheerleader. She is also deeply involved in church activities including serving as teen leader for Kid’s Club and volunteering on behalf of the homeless. She plans to attend Northwest Christian University to major in pediatric nursing.
Smith, the daughter of Connie and Barry Smith of Buckley/Enumclaw, is the recipient from White River High School. A 4.0 grade-point average honor student, she has taken a rigorous course load of advanced placement and honors classes at the high school. She participated this year in varsity cross country and served as the team captain. She is president of the WRHS FFA chapter and participated and placed in state-level competition. She also served as a mentor in the Big Brother/Big Sister program. She plans to attend a four-year school and study veterinary sciences.
December
At its December meeting, the Enumclaw Rotary Club recognized Kylie Matchette, Joe Glick and Samantha Lovelace as Students of the Month.
Matchette, the daughter of Rebecca and Jeffrey of Bonney Lake, was the recipient from White River’s Alternative Program, Collins High School. A positive influence on her peers at school, she has a 3.5 grade-point average and enjoys writing. She plans to attend Green River Community College and is interested in a career in either interior design or law.
Glick, the son of Vickie and Duane Glick of Enumclaw, was the recipient from Enumclaw High School. A student with a 3.8 grade-point average, he is a member of Honor Society, and a varsity athlete in both football and track. He plans to attend a four-year school this fall and study either construction management or civil engineering.
Lovelace, the daughter of Judith and Cody Lovelace of South Prairie, was the recipient from White River High School. A 3.8 grade-point average student, she is currently taking advanced placement classes, is on the cross country and wrestling teams and is a district leader with Key Club. She plans to attend Yakima Valley Community College in the fall to wrestle and earn an associate arts degree and then transfer to Eastern Washington University to become an athletic trainer.
EHS graduates return for pizza luncheon at library
Once again the Enumclaw School District invites middle and high school students and parents who are interested in hearing first-hand, post-high school stories from recent graduates to a pizza luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Enumclaw High School library.
Former students will share their experiences from their first year at college, technical school and the military.
Testing for Enumclaw’s Individual Achievement set
The Enumclaw School District students in grades kindergarten through fourth can take the Individual Achievement (IA) program placement test.
Second- through fourth-grade students will be tested from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 6 at Southwood Elementary School. The deadline is Jan. 4.
Kindergarten and first grade assessments will take place during regular school days the weeks of Jan. 11, Jan. 18 and Jan. 24. The deadline to register is Jan. 22.
