Tomorrow night, Buckley City Council will choose one of three candidates to fill a vacancy until the 2013 election.  The vacancy was left by Doug Harple, as he resigned dude to time conflicts with his job.  The term for the candidate, once they are selected, will be 16 months in the Council.  The three candidates are Brian Gillooly, John Leggett, and Marvin Sundstrom.

Gillooly is currently a professional land surveyor at Barghausen Consulting Engineers.  Gillooly said he feels his “past experience working with municipalities on large projects and small projects along with being a person who is easy to talk to and look out for the interest for all people would prove to be very useful as a council member.”

Leggett was a former reporter for the Courier Herald.  Leggett volunteered to coach football at all levels, from Pop Warner to Division I teams.  In the 1990s, Leggett served as a volunteer trainer for five year for the Seattle Seawhawks, when they opened a training camp in Cheney.  Leggett said, “I will faithfully fulfill any duties assigned to me and be devoted to be part of the council’s meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.”  Leggett attended council meetings regularly as a reporter.

Sundstrom was an engineer for 33 years before retiring.  He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Washington.  Ever since Sundstrom has moved to Buckley, he has attended council meetings, public hearings, and council committee meetings.

The three candidates will be interviewed on Tuesday, July 17 at 7 p.m. in order for the City Council to decide who will take the honorary place of Doug Harple.  The public is invited to attend.
