Buckley police continue their investigation into a traffic accident that left a 17-year-old boy dead and the 19-year-old driver of the car under suspicion.

Chief Jim Arsanto said Thursday the case could be ready to forward to the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office by the end of next week. Everything is on hold, he said, until reports are finalized by the Washington State Patrol crime laboratory.

The incident in question occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Aug. 3. on 112th Street East, near the point where 112th meets state Route 410. A Pontiac passenger car was traveling east when it left the roadway and smashed into a power pole. The passenger, Traevon Norton of Puyallup, was ejected and died at the scene.

The driver was hurt, but did not call for help. Instead, he phoned a friend who transported him to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Enumclaw. From there, he was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

In the days following the accident, police were hesitant to release details, but said the driver could be facing charges of vehicular homicide and felony hit-and-run.
