INTOXICATED: Police late on Sept. 17 pulled over a vehicle on state Route 410 for speeding, weaving between lanes and not having its headlights on. Upon contact, the officer noted the driver was chewing gum, smoking a cigar and refused to make eye contact, but acknowledged he forgot to turn his headlights on. Police smelled alcohol and the driver admitted to having two beers. He also told police his license was suspended. When police asked him to exit his vehicle, the officer noted his eyes were watery and bloodshot and he smelled of intoxicants. The driver failed a handful of roadside sobriety tests and then blew a .123 on the portable breath test. He was arrested and taken to Buckley Jail where he was booked for driving while intoxicated, where he refused to take a breath test. He was cited for driving under the influence, driving with license suspended and improper lane travel.
BURGLARY: Police on Sept. 19 were dispatched to the 9200 block of 181st Avenue East for a report of residential burglary. When the resident returned to his home, he discovered a closet door slightly ajar and several drawers partially opened. He also noted the toilet seat was up when he specifically left it down. Police noted the man’s meticulous home and the disruptions to it. Among the items missing were cash, jewelry, clothing, a laptop, bicycle wheels and two sets of skis. Police are investigating.
WARRANT: Police late on the evening of Sept. 19 ran the plate of a vehicle on South Prairie Road and discovered the driver had an outstanding warrant. The officer pulled over the vehicle and the driver was also unable to provide a license or proof of insurance. He was arrested and transported to Eatonville where he was booked on his warrant.
SUSPENDED: Police on patrol Sept. 21 ran the plate of a car on Sumner-Buckley Highway and discovered the driver was driving with license suspended. He was cited for driving with license suspended and given a citation for no proof of insurance.
WARRANT: Police on Sept. 21 checked the registration of a car parked on a property from which police recently recovered a stolen vehicle. A records check revealed the vehicle to be registered to a Puyallup resident with an outstanding escape warrant. Police later observed the same vehicle fail to stop at the stop sign and recognized the passenger from previous contacts. The driver had an outstanding Bonney Lake warrant for theft. Police confirmed the identity and warrants on the driver and he was transported to Pierce County Jail. The passenger was transported to Buckley Jail.
DRUGS AT SCHOOL: Officers on Sept. 22 were called to Bonney Lake High School where a small glass pipe commonly used to smoke marijuana was turned into the office. The pipe contained residue of burnt marijuana. Police also found 10 Ritalin pills in an Altoids tin. The paraphernalia and drugs were placed into the Bonney Lake Police property room and labeled for destruction.
PROWLED: Police on Sept. 22 were dispatched to the 7800 block of 195th Avenue East for a report of a vehicle prowl. The resident reported he initially thought a vehicle at the end of his driveway had rolled from its previous position, but he noticed the door ajar and the center console and glovebox appeared rummaged through. The only item missing appeared ot be an un-endorsed personal check. The man contacted his bank and discovered the check to be “pending.” Police are investigating.
GUN: Police on Sept. 23 were called to Mountain View Middle School for a report of a man with a gun. Two students reported seeing a black male in all-black clothing with a handgun. The students ran toward the school and the suspect ran in the other direction. The students said the man did not point the gun at them or threaten them in any way. Mountain View and Bonney Lake High School were briefly locked down. Police are investigating.
BLOCKING: An officer on patrol Sept. 23 came across a vehicle blocking the intersection at state Route 410 and Sky Island Drive. Police contacted the driver who said it was her boyfriend’s car and it just stopped. While police tried to help her start the car, the officer noticed a glass marijuana pipe in the center console. The driver denied smoking and said the pipe belonged to her boyfriend. The car was impounded after it failed to start and the pipe was booked into the police department’s evidence room to be destroyed.
DRUNK KIDS: Police on Patrol Sept. 24 witnessed a vehicle make a right turn onto Meyer’s Road without signaling and then make a left turn into an apartment complex without signaling. Police pulled the vehicle over and the driver said he did not live there, but pulled in so the officer would not pull him over. He said he panicked as he was taking an intoxicated friend home. Police observed an open can of beer in the vehicle, which the driver said belonged to the passenger, who appeared intoxicated. The driver was allowed to call a family member to pick him up and was issued an infraction for failure to signal and failure to provide insurance. The passenger was later seen by a deputy standing in the middle of state Route 410. Apparently, the passenger and driver had gotten into an argument and the passenger walked out onto the roadway. He was slurring his speech and smelled of intoxicants and admitted to walking out into the middle of the road. He was arrested and transported to Buckley Jail where he was booked for disorderly conduct and minor in possession of alcohol.
SHOPLIFTING: Police on Sept. 24 were sent to Fred Meyer for a report of a shoplifter in custody for allegedly stealing beer. Police have arrested the suspect prior for the same crime. When asked what happened, the man responded “I was caught stealing.” The man said he is homeless and did not have money for beer. he was transported to Buckley Jail and booked on theft charges, He was also trespassed from the store for two years.
EXPLICIT VIDEOS: Police on Sept. 24 responded to the lobby of the Public Safety Building where they took a report from a woman who said she received several sexually explicit videos from a neighbor. The neighbor allegedly sent her pictures of his genitalia after obtaining her number by asking her to call his phone so he could find it. The woman opted not to press charges and filed the report for information purposes.
BURGLARY: Officers on Sept. 24 were dispatched to the 7500 block of Locust Avenue East for a report of a residential burglary. The resident returned home to find several closets open and her belongings rifled through. She then located a ladder that had been placed next to her second floor bedroom window. Police are investigating.
WEAPONS: Police on routine patrol Sept. 27 observed a vehicle making a right turn on to South Prairie Road at a high rate of speed while honking its horn the entire time. The vehicle made an abrupt turn on to 210th Avenue East and accelerated to approximately twice the posted speed limit. The vehicle did not slow down after the officer activated his lights and turned onto 208th Avenue East. When the officer turned the corner, he observed the vehicle on the right shoulder and blacked out. The officer pulled up behind it and saw three people inside. The driver immediately identified herself and told police she had warrants. A records check showed a suspended driving status and a theft warrant out of Puyallup as well as two county warrants for unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. She was arrested. A passenger was also found to have an outstanding warrant and was also arrested. During a search, the passenger was found to have an illegal butterfly knife and a small baggie containing methamphetamine residue. The driver was turned over to Pierce County and the passenger cited for possession of a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and then booked into Puyallup Jail on his warrant.
