It may still be the dark days of winter, but Bonney Lake is planning for a big splash of spring and summer fun.

David Wells, the city's events coordinator, has been busy lining up more than 30 events that begin with an egg hunt March 22, includes the return of music at Allan Yorke Park with Tunes@Tapps, a stage play in the park and closes with a city wide trick-or-treat event Oct. 31.

One of this year's additions to the roster of activities will be a water ski and wakeboard exhibition in the Church Lake area of Lake Tapps from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 17.

The idea for the exhibition came from Ann Fish and Randy McKibbin, chairman of the Planning Committee.

“We thought, why not?” Fish said. “The lake is there and it lets people know how important the lake is.”

Fish is an avid water skier and was able to make contacts with people and business in the water sports community who could stage the event.

Fish said Kia Roberts-Thane, manager of Adrenaline Water Sports in Bellevue, will be the master of ceremonies for the event and her husband Tom Thane will set up the course on the lake.

Rob Pedrini of Pacific Nautiques in Pacific will supply the ski boats and wakeboard boat.

“This should be a huge draw on Sunday (of Bonney Lake Days),” Wells said. “This will be a full-length water ski course exhibition.”

Another first-time event will be town hall meetings in each of the city's five City Council wards. Each will include the City Council representative from the ward, the two at-large members and Mayor Neil Johnson. The city is planning to have food, fun and talk at the meetings. Dates and times have not been finalized.

The Tunes@Tapps event will bring back Vicci Martinez, Wells said.

“That's a real coup to get her back,” Wells said. “She's not doing many performances right now, because she's in the recording studio.”

The Missoula Children's Theater will return for a second year July 14-19.

The annual Beatify Bonney Lake event is set for Sept. 20.
