WEDNESDAY, October 27

ENUMCLAW TV: The Enumclaw TV schedule, Channel 21, for today, Wednesday, through Sunday has been released. Scheduling is as follows: 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., Enumclaw City Council meeting of Oct. 25; 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., Enumclaw City Council Budget workshop; 2 p.m., Project Impact meeting of Oct. 18; 5 p.m., Enumclaw library preschool storytime; 11 p.m., Army Newswatch.

PUBLIC SPEAKING: Toastmasters public speaking club meets at the Enumclaw branch of Green River Community College, 1414 Griffin Ave., from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Wednesdays. Toastmasters provides an opportunity to gain confidence and achieve dreams. Contact Bruce DeJong at 360-825-2591 for information.

HALLOWEEN COSTUMES: The Families First Coalition will distribute Halloween costumes at the Prairie Ridge Community Center between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, and 12:30 to 5 p.m. Friday.

THURSDAY, October 28

HALLOWEEN PARTY: The Black Diamond Community Center will host a Halloween party, Graveyard Luncheon, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday. Tickets are $5.

OCKTOBERFEST: Enumclaw High School German students will host an Ocktoberfest celebration from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. Thursday in the EHS commons. The cost is $10 per person. The evening will include a professional Bavarian band, dancing and fingerhakeln, an Alpine strength game. Tickets can be purchased from a German student or by e-mailing adviser Sarah Stout at sarah_stout@enumclaw.wednet.edu. All proceeds go to support those going on EHS’s Germany exchange trip.

CHORALE REHEARSALS: Cascade Foothills Chorale begins rehearsals for its fall 2010 concert season from 7 to 9:15 p.m. Thursday in the choir room at Enumclaw High School.

FRIDAY, October 29

GROCERY FUNDRAISER: Shop at Enumclaw Grocery Outlet between 5 and 8 p.m. Friday and 10 percent of the grocery bill will support Rainier Foothills Swim Team.

SATURDAY, October 30

CHURCH BAZAAR: St. Barbara will host its annual holiday artisans bazaar from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the church hall at the corner of Sixth and Baker streets in Black Diamond. This event is sponsored by the Circle of Joy and proceeds benefit St. Barbara Church.

HALLOWEEN PARTY: The Buckley Youth Activity Center will host a Halloween party for kids ages 8 to 18 between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

MONDAY, November 1

SCOTTISH DANCE: The Plateau Scottish Country Dancers meet from 7 to 9 p.m. beginning Monday at the Danish Hall on Porter Street in Enumclaw. Learn the social dances of Scotland. DINNER AUCTION: The Buckley Youth Activity Center dinner and auction takes place at 5 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Buckley Eagles. The cost is $10. To donate auction items, contact Ellen Boyd at 360-829-6534.

ART FUNDRAISER: Arts Alive!’s dinner and auction, themed Beam Me Up Enumclaw, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Pete’s Pool fieldhouse. The annual costume-optional fundraising extravaganza raises money for Arts Alive!, the Plateau’s nonprofit, volunteer-run organization that supports visual, performing, literary and musical arts in the area. Tickets are on sale for $40 a person at the Arts Alive! Gallery, 1429 Cole St. in Enumclaw, 360-802-6787, or info@PlateauArtsAlive.org. The ticket deadline is Oct. 30. This year’s honoree will be Gary LaTurner, Enumclaw Cultural Programs Manager, accomplished visual and ceramic artist and teacher. QUILT TICKETS: The Crystal Quilters have again created a quilt to raise money for Arts Alive! Raffle tickets are on sale for $1 at the Arts Alive! Gallery on Cole Street in Enumclaw. The drawing will take place at the annual Arts Alive! dinner and auction Nov. 6 at Pete’s Pool fieldhouse, but participants need not be present to win.

BOB MILNE: Stage Door Productions presents Bob Milne: An Evening of Ragtime and Boogie-Woogie at 7 p.m. Nov. 12 at the White River High School theater, 26928 120th St. E., Buckley.

Milne has entertained audiences across the country with his piano prowess. The Library of Congress has deemed him a “National Treasure.” Tickets are $20 with group rates available. FLEECE COLLECTION: Sirius 4-H Dog Club is looking for fleece and cardstock donations. Youth will be making cards and animal blankets for a community service project. Country Animal Hospital, the corner of 244th Avenue Southeast and state Route 164 in Enumclaw, will be accepting donations through Nov. 12.

ART AUCTION: Friends of Elizabeth Crews are organizing a fundraising dinner and art auction Nov. 14 to honor her and benefit St. Elizabeth Hospital. The gourmet dinner begins at 6 p.m. at Enumclaw’s Rainier Bar and Grill. Tickets range from $100 to $125 and can be purchased through Edward Hechter at 253-217-1059 or Edward@partypail.com. Donations are tax deductible.

CALL TO ARTISTS: The city of Enumclaw is seeking visual artists to exhibit two and three-dimensional, original, works of art at City Hall Gallery 2011. A total of 12 exhibitions will be scheduled. Each exhibition will be displayed for approximately four weeks.

Artists represented in all exhibits are responsible for installation, labels, text, sales and public receptions. The City Hall Gallery 2011 has a glass display case in which small sculptures, pottery, jewelry and similar items will be scheduled for additional exhibitions. Artists interested in being considered for exhibition, should include the preferred date for exhibition, and if work would be available for a January 2011 exhibit. All work submitted will be reviewed by the Arts Commission for inclusion in the exhibit schedule. Please submit the following materials: Eight photographs of work, no actual artwork. Each photograph must be labeled with artist’s name, title of piece, size and media and top of the image must be clearly marked. Entries must also include an annotated list, self-addressed, stamped return envelope and artist statement. Entries may be submitted to Enumclaw Cultural Programs Coordinator, 1339 Griffin Ave., Enumclaw, 98022. The deadline for consideration is Nov. 30. BABY CLASS: The center will host a free parenting class titled Happiest Baby on the Block from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 30 at Foothills Elementary School, 10621 234th Ave. E., Buckley. This class is open to parents who are either expecting a baby or have an infant up to 3 months old. Childcare is provided.

PARENTING CLASS: Transition to Parenthood is a workshop about healthy communication for couples who are expecting a baby or who are raising an infant or toddler between 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 7 at Foothills Elementary School, 10621 234th Ave. E., Buckley. COAT GIVEAWAY: Create a variety of imaginative surprises and pick up a winter coat between 5:30 to 7 p.m. Dec. 6 at Wickersham School of Discovery, 250 W. Main in Buckley. Cocoa, Coats and Crafts is a free event. To donate a new or clean, gently-used coat bring it to the Family Center Portable on the Wickersham campus between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Other donation sites include Buckley Library, Buckley Eagles and Bonney Lake Fitness, or the night of the event.

Gallery 2010: The city of Enumclaw Gallery 2010 presents photographer Lauri Hillberg’s Birds of Enumclaw. The exhibit at Enumclaw City Hall closes Nov. 2. Hours for the exhibition space are 8 a. m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Enumclaw City Hall is closed on national holidays. The gallery is closed to the public Tuesdays for municipal court. MAGICAL MOMENTS: Plateau Area Writers Association announces the release of its Magical Moments and Unexplainable Events anthology. Copies are $6 each.

CHOICE PROGRAM: The Choice Program is accepting applications for third through 12th grade through the summer. Applications can be picked up at the White River District Office, 240 N. A St., Buckley at the Human Resources office.

GET ON TRACK: Get on Track runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays at the Black Diamond Community Center, 31605 Third Ave. The group’s focus is to educate youth ages 13 to 17 who are in danger of entering the Juvenile Justice System or who have court-ordered hours. Each session qualifies for 1.5 hours of community service time. Youth and parent are required to attend a two-hour intake prior to attendance. Call Judith or Leslie at 360-886-1011 to schedule an intake.

CHILD FIND: The White River School District provides Child Find screenings, at no cost to families, throughout the school year. This is an opportunity to have preschool-age children checked by professionals from Student Support Services in the areas of vision, hearing, speech/language, learning and motor skills. The purpose of the screening is to identify issues that could affect a child’s future success in school. Results of the screening are discussed with parents and further testing is recommended if necessary. To participate, call 360-829-3959.
