Wednesday Sept. 29

SUMMER FUNDRAISER: The Black Diamond Community Center will host its last party of summer, a fundraiser for the adult day health program, at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday. The Icicle River Band will play. The cost is $15.

PUBLIC SPEAKING: Toastmasters public speaking club meets at the Enumclaw branch of Green River Community College, 1414 Griffin Ave., from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Wednesdays. Toastmasters provides an opportunity to gain confidence and achieve dreams. Contact Bruce DeJong at 360-825-2591 for information.

Thursday, Sept. 30

SIMPLY SOUP: A free community dinner, Simply Soup, takes place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Enumclaw Senior/Community Center, 1350 Cole St. This is a chance to meet neighbors and make friends. This is a free soup dinner open to all in the community. Please bring a bowl and spoon, volunteers do not do dishes. Soup host is Enumclaw Mayor Liz Reynolds, city council and staff.

CHORALE REHEARSALS: Cascade Foothills Chorale begins rehearsals for its fall 2010 concert season from 7 to 9:15 p.m. Thursday in the choir room at Enumclaw High School.

Friday, Oct. 1

Enumclaw High School homecoming parade is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Cole Street. The football game begins at 7 p.m. at Pete’s Pool.

Saturday, Oct. 2

EHS CLASS OF 1980: The Enumclaw High School class of 1980 will host its 30-year reunion at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Emerald Downs Turf Club in Auburn. Tickets are $60 per person. Dinner is included. EHS CLASS OF 1985: The Enumclaw High School class of 1985 will host its 25-year reunion Saturday at the Muckleshoot Casino. The event will begin at 6 p.m with a no-host bar. A family gathering at Mud Mountain Dam, weather permitting, is scheduled for Sunday. The homecoming parade and football game is Friday with no-host social to follow at Four Seasons.

HANDS-ON SCIENCE: Buckley Youth Center’s hands-on science starts at 11 a.m. Saturday and continues each Saturday through Oct. 16. The class is designed for children ages 4 to 10. The cost is $8 per class, or $24 per session.

Monday, Oct. 4

SCOTTISH DANCE: The Plateau Scottish Country Dancers meet from 7 to 9 p.m. beginning Monday at the Danish Hall on Porter Street in Enumclaw. Learn the social dances of Scotland. PLACEMENT HELP: The Enumclaw Senior Activity Center will host a daycare placement presentation at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. This is a free option for seniors to help assist in finding a home or offer support in locating in-home care options, adult family homes, assisted living facilities, boarding homes, skilled nurse facilities.

COMING UP

STROKE SEMINAR: An informational seminar on stroke, abdominal aortic aneurysm and peripheral arterial disease will take place at 10 a.m. Oct. 6 at the Enumclaw Senior Activity Center. The session aims to help people who are at risk of developing stroke, AAA and PAD understand the condition, its causes, how it can be prevented and how it is diagnosed.

PLAY TIME: Stage Door Productions announces tickets are available for its double feature event: “Black Comedy and The Real Inspector Hound.” Two short comedies on one bill, both in one night. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7, 8, 9 and Oct. 15 and 16 and 2 p.m. matinees Oct. 9 and 10 and Oct. 16. Advance tickets are $8. Tickets at the door are $10. OKTOBERFEST FUN: Friends of the Danish Hall will host an Oktoberfest fundraiser Oct. 9 at the Danish Hall, 1708 Porter St. Social hour begins at 5 p.m., dinner at 6. Dinner and spirits are $35. Proceeds go toward preserving the 100-year-old Enumclaw Danish Hall. A live accordian polka band will entertain during a bratwurst dinner.

STORY TIME: Registration is under way for the Enumclaw Public Library’s winter story time sessions, Tuesday, through Nov.4. Toddler Time will be 10 to 10:30 a.m. and 11 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays.

This is for children ages 2 to 3 ½ accompanied by an adult. Toddler Times has started and runs for eight weeks. Preschool story time will be 10 to 10:30 a.m. to 11 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays. This is for children ages 3 ½ and up. pre-school story time begins Thursday and runs for eight weeks. ENSEMBLE TRYOUT: The Allegro Women’s Ensemble will host auditions Oct. 6 in the evening. Plan for 15-20 minutes. Please contact Kathee Lundberg at 360-825-0759 to set up a time. Participants must sing in a first or second soprano range. Auditioners will be provided with a piece of music to prepare to sing with the group and sight read a piece. There will be a personal interview. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings. The Allegro Women’s Ensemble is a group of women interested in learning and bringing music to the community.

OPEN HOUSE: Enumclaw Fire Department will host an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 9 to observe Fire Prevention Week. Educational booths, tours and kids activities are planned. For informatmion, contact Carina Davis, public information and education specialist, at 360-615-5759.

ANNEXATION MEETING: A public information meeting regarding the Nov. 2 annexation vote for the city of Enumclaw and Fire District No. 28 is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Enumclaw Fire Station. A second meeting is planned for 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 13 at Cumberland Fire Station.

FOOD CARD CLASS: A food worker card class for food workers, day-care providers and others interested in food safety is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Buckley Multi-Purpose Center, 811 Main St. To register, call 360-829-0190. Bring $10 cash only and picture identification. All materials will be provided. Seating is limited, students will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

TEEN NIGHT: The Buckley Youth Activitity Center will host a teen late night for youth ages 13 to 18 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Oct. 8.

GALLERY 2010: The city of Enumclaw presents artist Lisa Parsons at Gallery 2010 at Enumclaw City Hall. The exhibit continues through Oct. 5. Gallery 2010 is located at City Hall, 1339 Griffin Ave. Hours for the exhibition space are 8 a. m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Enumclaw City Hall is closed on national holidays. MAGICAL MOMENTS: Plateau Area Writers Association announces the release of its Magical Moments and Unexplainable Events anthology. Copies are $6 each.

CHOICE PROGRAM: The Choice Program is accepting applications for third through 12th grade through the summer. Applications can be picked up at the White River District Office, 240 N. A St., Buckley at the Human Resources office.

GET ON TRACK: Get on Track runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays at the Black Diamond Community Center, 31605 Third Ave. The group’s focus is to educate youth ages 13 to 17 who are in danger of entering the Juvenile Justice System or who have court-ordered hours. Each session qualifies for 1.5 hours of community service time. Youth and parent are required to attend a two-hour intake prior to attendance.
