In a move akin to changing horses in midstream, members of the Enumclaw City Council have apparently decided to downplay Enumclaw’s commitment to branding itself an equestrian community.
The council was expected to address Resolution 1375 during its Monday night meeting. The resolution was drafted to repeal earlier action “which officially branded Enumclaw an equestrian community and established an equestrian theme for directional signs, city signs, branding and logos of the city.”
The move apparently stems from discussions during a Feb. 27 council retreat.
Council Mike Ennis, contacted last week, predicted the agenda item would have smooth sailing Monday night.
“Everyone was generally in favor of getting rid of the equestrian brand,” Ennis said, quickly adding that isn’t ignoring the equine community.
“We just don’t want to be limited to an equestrian brand when we’re trying to do other things,” he explained. “We’re not abandoning equestrian-related events at the Expo Center.”
City Administrator Mike Thomas echoed those sentiments.
“In general, the council realizes the equestrian theme is but one of many” attractions the city has to offer, he said.
