DRINKING LEADS TO ACCIDENT: Police on Jan. 23 were dispatched to the scene of a three-car accident in the 21300 block of state Route 410. After talking to the victims, it appears a Jeep hit the back of a car waiting in traffic, which then struck the car in front of it. The driver and passenger of the middle car reported neck and back pain. They were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital by East Pierce Fire and Rescue. When police contacted the driver of the Jeep, they could smell the strong odor of mouthwash coming from the vehicle. In addition, the driver’s eyes were bloodshot and watery and his speech was slurred. Initially the driver denied drinking, but admitted to having “three beers.” The driver failed multiple field sobriety tests and then refused to take a portable breath test. He was arrested and taken to the public safety building, where, more than an hour after the accident, he blew a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit. He was transported to Puyallup Jail and booked for driving under the influence and speed too fast for road conditions.
SUSPENDED/WARRANT: Police on patrol Jan. 25 did a routine registration check on a vehicle and discovered the registered owner to be driving with license suspended an a warrant out of Puyallup. Police pulled over the vehicle and confirmed the driver was the registered owner. She was cited for driving with license suspended and transported to Puyallup for her warrant.
DRUGS: Police on routine patrol late on Jan. 25 observed a car whose right tail light did not turn on until the driver applied the brakes and when he did so, the left tail light would go out and pulled over the vehicle. While talking to the driver, police noticed the smell of burnt marijuana and observed a rolled up plastic bag on the center console. When asked what it contained, the driver admitted it was marijuana and handed the bag to the officer. When asked if the was other marijuana or paraphernalia in the car, the passenger reached under his seat and produced a glass pipe, which he handed to the officer. During a search, police also found a second bag of marijuana on the driver, who also admitted the pipe was his. He was cited for unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY: Police on Jan. 26 took a report of a residential burglary in the 4900 block of North Vista Drive. When the resident left for work in the morning, he noted his garage door was open. Later, while on route to work, his daughter called to tell him the television and video game system were missing. The resident returned home and noticed several other items missing, including tools, games and a laptop, which was later found in Auburn. Police are investigating.
SHOPLIFTING: Officers on Jan. 26 were dispatched to Walmart for a report that two laptop computers were stolen the previous night. Store security showed police a video of two men removing the security wraps and hiding the items under their clothes before exiting the store and leaving in a car. Police are investigating.
MALICIOUS MISCHIEF: Police on Jan. 28 were dispatched to the 7600 block of 208th Avenue East for a report of malicious mischief. The resident told police that just after midnight he heard noise outside and noticed dishwashing soap on his car. He went out to clean it and noticed all four tires had been damaged and were deflated. Police are investigating.
FORGERY: Police on Jan. 28 were dispatched to the Fred Meyer pharmacy for a report of a forgery in progress. The pharmacist had contacted the prescribing doctor and learned the prescription was a forgery. The suspect was trying to get a prescription for painkillers filled. The doctor said he had examined the suspect and issued three prescriptions though none of them were for narcotics. As she was taken to a police car, the suspect began to cry and said she “did something bad” before admitting to forging the prescription. The suspect was also implicated in a attempted prescription forgery in Enumclaw earlier in the day. She was transported to Pierce County Jail and booked for prescription forgery.
ANOTHER FORGERY: Officer on Jan. 28 were dispatched to the Safeway pharmacy for a report of a fraud in progress. Police ran the name on the identification card provided by the suspect and learned the suspect had felony warrants out for violation of the uniform controlled substance act and unlawful possession of a firearm. When the subject returned to pick up his prescription, he was placed under arrest. The doctor who supposedly prescribed the pills also contacted the pharmacy to say he did not do so and the individual had been using his name in other forgery attempts and should be arrested. The suspect was transported to Pierce County Jail and booked on a charge of forgery as well as his outstanding warrants.
PROWLED: Police on Jan. 28 were dispatched ot Bonney Lake High School for a report of a vehicle prowl. The victim reported leaving her purse in her car while attending an event at the school only to return to find her window broken and her purse missing, as well as one belonging to a passenger. Police are investigating.
NOT WHO HE SAYS HE IS: An officer running license plates in the 7200 block of West Tapps Highway on Jan. 30 pulled over a vehicle for expired registration. The driver provided a license of a person who was obviously not him in the picture. When the officer asked what his real name was, the driver gave a different name. Police checked that name and discovered he was driving with license suspended and had an outstanding Department of Corrections felony warrant and three misdemeanor warrants out of Pierce County, totaling $85,000. He was transported to Buckley Jail and booked on charges of driving with license suspended and providing false statements to police.
