Bonney Lake Police Blotter, week of July 14

MALICIOUS MISCHIEF: Police on July 1 received a call from Larry’s Classic Qulaity Brake and Muffler about an angry customer who punched and broke the window of the business and then fled the scene. While police were talking with a woman who was with the suspect, he called the shop to apologize and wanted to pay for the damage. He was escorted back to the business. The suspect was upset over service to his vehicle and wanted to make noise by tapping on the glass and did not intend to break it. Damage was estimated at $985. The suspect was charged with malicious mischief and released.

NOT “MESSING AROUND”: Police on patrol July 1 witnessed a vehicle drive over a curb at a gas station on Sumner-Buckley Highway. When contacted, the driver said she did it intentionally and was “messing around.” As they spoke, police noticed a strong smell of intoxicants and report the driver’s eyes were watery and bloodshot. The driver failed several roadside sobriety tests and then blew a preliminary breath test of .159. The driver’s license was punched and she was cited for DUI and released to a sober friend.

PROWL: Officers on July 2 were dispatched to the 20600 block of 97th Street East for a report of vehicle prowl. The owner reported that the face plate of his stereo and a GPS system were taken from his vehicle, which was unlocked. Total value of the stolen items is $160. Police are investigating.

PROWL: Police on July 2 received a report of a vehicle prowl in the 9400 block of 205th Street East. According to the reporting party, the faceplate of his stereo was taken from his unlocked vehicle sometime overnight. The stereo is valued at $150. Police are investigating.

VANDALISM/PROWL: Police on July 2 took a report from a resident in the 18800 block of 65th Street East regarding the window of his car being broken with a rock through the night. The registration and insurance card were stolen from the glovebox. Police are investigating.

STRONGARM ROBBERY: Police on July 2 were dispatched to Safeway for a report of a shoplift in progress. Police arrived to find two store employees struggling with a juvenile male suspect in front of the store. The employees reported seeing the suspect stuff a 40-oz malt liquor beverage in his waistband and attempt to leave the store without paying. Though initially complaint, the suspect began to struggle when informed police had been called. The suspect claimed a friend promised to pay him $5 for the alcohol if he stole it. He was charged with second-degree robbery and minor in possession of alcohol and transported to Remann Hall.

DUI: Police on patrol early in the morning of July 2 stopped a vehicle in the 10900 block of 192 Avenue East for speeding and crossing the center line. Upon contact, the driver appeared intoxicated and admitted to having been drinking. He failed several field sobriety tests, stating “Man, this is hard!” after failing to walk a straight line for 10 steps. A preliminary breath test revealed a BAC of .197. He was arrested and transported to Buckley Jail on a charge of DUI, where he provided a blood alcohol content of .226. His license was also punched.

GUN VIOLATION: Officers on July 3 were dispatched to the 20200 block of 71st Street East for a report from a complaintent that he had been awakened by a man pointing a shotgun at him. According to the reporting party, he heard a male voice tell him to get out of his house and opened his eyes to see the shotgun. He was allowed to dress and leave. The homeowner said the man with the gun was her estranged husband who was visiting the couple’s daughter. He still had a key and though he was expected later in the day, arrived early and took the shotgun – which was determined to be unloaded throughout the incident – from a closet. The man said when he arrived and saw the other man he “just reacted” and was “protecting” his wife. The victim declined to press charges and requested the husband be released, which he was.

BURGLARY: Police on July 7 responded to call from the 7800 blcok of 211th Avenue East regarding a burglary. According to the homeowner, unknown suspects entered his garage and took a bicycle valued at $325. The garage was accidentally left unlocked. The homeowner also reported that a box containing a handgun, valued at $700 was also missing. The gun was not loaded and no ammunition was missing. The reporting party also provided detailed information about the gun. Police are investigating.

MALICIOUS MISCHIEF: Police on July 6 responded to a report of a rock thrown through a window at City Hall during the holiday weekend. The rock was thrown through a window in the courtroom on he south side of the building. Police are investigating.

BUI: Members of the Marine Services Unit were on patrol the night of July 3 and observed a vehicle travelling without a required light. Officers looked through the patrol boat’s night scope and witnessed the driver a=working with the light. Police stopped the boat and contacted the driver who said he did not have a Boater Education Card, but denied operating the boat. Police smelled the odor of intoxicants coming from the vessel and the driver, who later admitted to police he lied about not operating the boat. He also failed several field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for boating under the influence. He later provided breath samples of .110 and .111. The boat was released to a sober passenger.

OBSTRUCTING: Officers on patrol early on the morning of July 4 witnessed a man who appeared to be lurking in driveways in the 8500 block of 182nd Avenue East. The officer shined the spotlight on him and the suspect appeared to hide. The officer exited his patrol car and contacted the individual, who became belligerent, refused to comply with the officer and began shouting obscenities at the officer, who determined the man was drunk. The suspect also began throwing groceries at the officer. The suspect then raised his fists to the officer, who took him to the ground. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing a police officer.

VANDALISM: Police on July 5 were called to Peek-A-Brew Espresso for a report of a rock thrown through the business’s window through the night. Police are investigating.

ARSON/PROWL: Officers on July 5 were dispatched to the 20900 block of Church Lake Drive for a report of a vehicle prowl and an arson. The reporting party came outside to find the smoke coming from the cab of his truck. Once the fire was extinguished, the victim reported several items missing. The ire appeared to have started in the backseat and the handle to one of the doors was broken. Police are investigating.

SEAT SWITCHING: Police on patrol late July 5 noticed the a car pull out from behind the NAPA building on to 192nd Avenue East. The car then turned on state Route 410. The officer notes a white male driving the car at that time and positioned his vehicle to watch for a traffic violation. Soon after, the car made a quick turn on to 234th Avenue without signaling and the officer activated his lights. The vehicle turned on to 102nd Street and came to an abrupt stop in the middle of the street at which time the officer noticed it rocking as if people were moving inside. Upon contact, a white female was in the driver’s seat. The passenger, a white male, said he did not have his license and denied switching seats. He provided his name, which returned a driving status of driving with license suspended and a warrant for DWLS with $15,000 bail. He was arrested. The driver was asked about switching seats, did not say anything and was arrested for aiding ad abetting a DWLS and obstructing a police officer. One of the passengers in the back seat of the car confirmed the seat switch. A search revealed in the purse of one of the passengers a bag of marijuana and a pipe. She was cited for unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. A further search of the vehicle revealed a bag of marijuana at the location where the woman was originally sitting and a charge of unlawful possession of marijuana was added.

BB HOLES: Police on July 6 were called to the 8300 block of 186th Avenue East after the reporting party noticed chips in his windshield that appeared to have been caused by a bb gun. Police are investigating.

TRESPASSING: Police on patrol July 7 witnessed a male subject at Allan Yorke PArk drinking vodka from a half-gallon jug. The suspect admitting to bringing the alcohol to the park, a violation, and agreed to leave to avoid repercussions. Approximately an hour later, police received a call of two male suspects acting belligerent at the skate park. They appeared to be intoxicated and were being offensive, including using “pick-up lines” on young girls. Police recognized one of the men as the suspect from earlier. He was placed under arrest for trespassing. The other individual was advised to leave the park and told to have someone pick them up from a different location. Ten minutes later, the suspect was seen back at the park again and was arrested for trespassing. Both were trespassed from the park for the remainder of the summer.
