Enumclaw’s former Domestic Violence Task Force has evolved into a new entity that seeks to root out the inherent causes of violence and alter behavior before it turns ugly. The result is LINCCK, or Linking Civility, Compassion and Kindness.

LINCCK’s beginning will be celebrated from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospital, 1455 Battersby Ave.

Trip Hart, part of a loose-knit group coordinating the LINCCK effort, said everyone is invited who would like to play a role in shaping the community’s positive outlook on nonviolent behavior. LINCCK will be part of National Night Out on Aug. 2, the Domestic Violence Awareness campaign and its “purple light nights” in October and the Rachel’s Challenge effort that will be a communitywide project in September.

Monday’s kick-off celebration will feature guest speaker Dr. Maggie Baker, an assistant professor at the University of Washington and chairwoman of the King County Elder Abuse Council. She will share her personal story of a random act of violence – being shot three times – and how it changed her life and shaped her conclusions on the origins of violence.
