The Enumclaw School Board has given Superintendent Mike Nelson a favorable review and extended his contract through 2013. Board President Nancy Merrill made the announcement at the board’s May 17 meeting.

Merrill highlighted Nelson’s work in the areas of student-centered learning, facilities project management, professional learning communities and mathematics and his work on the Black Diamond tri-party agreement.

The board expects to see his continued work in the areas of PLCs and math and a return to its literacy program. The board also congratulated Nelson on his personal professional achievements. He was elected chair of the Superintendents of the Puget Sound Educational Service District and is president-elect of the Washington Association of School Administrators Region 110.

There will be no change in Nelson’s compensation or salary. In fact, Merrill noted in an e-mail, last year and this year he voluntarily reduced his work days, and salary, by two, the same reduction the certificated staff was asked to make.

The White River School District board of directors also gave their leader Tom Lockyer a favorable evaluation.

“We are pleased with the work that he is doing and leading others to do in our district with regard to student learning and achievement,” the board wrote. “We thank him for his foresight in regards to our fiscal position and commend him for the work that he and his staff have done to bring us to our current position of stability. We look forward to a continued positive relationship.”

The board plans to address his contract during its June 9 regular meeting.
