Expect lane and ramp closures next week for Nalley Valley project

Drivers should expect a series of total night closures next week on eastbound State Route 16 at South Union Avenue, and the South Union Avenue on-ramp to eastbound SR 16. Crews also will close the southbound Interstate 5 exit to South 38th Street (Exit #132A).

TACOMA – Drivers should expect a series of total night closures next week on eastbound State Route 16 at South Union Avenue, and the South Union Avenue on-ramp to eastbound SR 16.  Crews also will close the southbound Interstate 5 exit to South 38th Street (Exit #132A).

The closures will allow crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation to continue progress on the Interstate 5/SR 16 Eastbound Nalley Valley project.

The eastbound SR 16 closures are required while crews to install electrical infrastructure for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and roadway illumination.  The exit closure will allow crews to conduct drainage work.

Closure information:

Monday, June 30 through Wednesday, July 2

9 p.m. – Closing South Union Avenue on-ramp to eastbound SR 16; detour via South Union Avenue.

11 p.m. – Closing all lanes of eastbound SR 16 at South Union Avenue.

The lanes and ramp will reopen each following morning at 4 a.m.

Monday, June 30, and Tuesday, July 1

11 p.m. – In addition to the above eastbound SR 16 closures, crews will close the southbound I-5 exit to South 38th Street (Exit #132A). A signed detour will be provided.

The exit will reopen at 5:30 a.m. each following morning.
