Welcome the change of seasons at the Fall Family Garden Festival and Tree Sale this Saturday. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Washington State University (WSU) Master Gardener’s Demonstration Garden.

At the free event, attendees can learn how to continue gardening into the colder months. They can participate in fall games and art projects, get gardening tips from WSU Master Gardeners, go on a salmon viewing tour, listen to music and storytellers, take part in a tree planting workshop, and enjoy free snacks. Pierce County Public Works and Utilities funds the event as part of its Natural Yard Care program.

A selection of deciduous, conifers and fruit-bearing trees will on sale for $30 each. Trees will be delivered for free if buyers live in Pierce County. Some of the specimens are large and will require assistance loading and unloading if buyers have their own truck or trailer.

Those who attend should dress for the weather and wear sturdy, supportive shoes, as the demonstration garden is a working site.

The festival is partnership between several public agencies and non-profit organizations, including Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, Pierce County, WSU Extension – Master Gardeners, City of Tacoma and Citizens for a Healthy Bay.
