Just before 7:30 a.m. Friday, a Sonic Drive In employee prepping for the day called 9-1-1 to report that the fryers were on fire. East Pierce Fire and Rescue firefighters arrived at the restaurant, located at 19855 South Prairie Road East in Bonney Lake, to find smoke coming from the kitchen area. They were able to quickly douse the flames.

According to East Pierce Deputy Chief John McDonald, the restaurant suffered minimal damage. “The fire mostly damaged product, although it will take some clean up before the restaurant can open again,” he says.

There were no injuries reported.
