Fitness center aids food bank

During the month of March, Curves of Enumclaw will participate in the 11th annual Curves Food Drive to benefit local food banks.

This year, the Enumclaw women’s fitness business is partnering with Plateau Outreach Ministries. Food donations brought to Curves of Enumclaw will go to the Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation.

According to POM Food Bank Manager Denise Trivelas, the number of families the food bank serves is increasing weekly with many new faces. People who have worked hard all their lives are now finding themselves laid off. With the increase, POM is looking for ways to keep the pantry full, one way is through the Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation, which gives away $1 million to fight hunger.

For the months of March and April, all food items or financial contributions donated specifically to the food bank will receive Feinstein money added to it.

Curves of Enumclaw has already collected 442 pounds of food and to encourage the collection of more food it is waiving its normal service fee for any new member who brings in a bag of nonperishable groceries and joins before March 28. This promotion will help the women of Enumclaw manage their weight and their wallets by joining Curves for free, while also helping feed hungry people in the community.

“The Curves Food Drive is always exciting,” said Sonna and Ken Greer, owners of the Enumclaw club. “We have a chance to help so many people at a time when the food banks are lowest. Especially during these uncertain times, this food is needed more than ever. It’s a win-win situation for everyone and we’re very proud to participate.”

Others wishing to donate may drop of nonperishable food items at Curves during business hours Monday through Friday. For information, call 360-825-3930 or visit www.curvesofenumclaw.com.
