Julia Evans, daughter of John and Sylvia Evans, has received the Fulbright grant to teach English in Bogota, Colombia, during the 2014-15 school year.
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is a competitive and prestigious award sponsored by the U.S. government in which recipients get to meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country. The program allows grant recipients to gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think. Through engagement in the community, the individual will interact with their hosts on a one-to-one basis in an atmosphere of openness, academic integrity and intellectual freedom.
The grant will cover round-trip transportation to the host country, living expenses, health insurance, book and research allowances, mid-term enrichment activities, full or partial tuition, language study programs and pre-departure and in-country orientations.
She graduated from Enumclaw High in 2010 and from the University of Washington in March 2014.
