Today Son Kim, 32, was sentenced to 152 months in prison after a jury found him guilty of Assault in the Second Degree and two counts of Unlawful Possession of a firearm in the first degree.  The court granted the state’s request for a high end sentence of 152 months.

“Our Gang Unit continues to hold accountable gang members who commit violent crimes,” said Prosecutor Mark Lindquist. “Gang violence is down in Pierce County, but we remain vigilant.”

On February 22, 2012, the defendant handed his 9 millimeter pistol to an accomplice to attack another man. When the victim was struck on the head with the handgun, it fired. The bullet went through his neck, but did not significantly injure him. The defendant was arrested on February 25, 2012, and a search warrant revealed the same gun used in the shooting in the backseat of his car.

The defendant has several other felony convictions. In 1998, the defendant pled guilty to two counts of Burglary in the First Degree after stealing firearms from two homes. In 2007, the defendant pled guilty to Attempted Assault in the Second Degree for firing his gun during a drug deal gone bad.
