Getting “back” mobility | Sumner Mayor Update

I have to confess that late last week, I hurt my back. It's amazing how one thing going wrong completely disrupts your ability to function. You have to figure out how to carry on despite this new challenge.

While my situation is just temporary, I know there are many who face serious challenges every day doing just the ordinary things in life that I often take for granted.  And, it’s a reminder that some of the things we do as a community are important to make life for those who face challenges a little easier.

We currently have a draft of our ADA Compliance Self-Evaluation available on the website. That’s a fancy name for the process in which we take a look at our city to see where there are barriers to access and how we can help overcome them.  But, we need your help.

First, we need your help to identify barriers to access in your neighborhood that affect quality of life for our neighbors.  Next, help us set priorities in developing a plan.  If you have time, take a look at the draft plan and give us feedback, especially if it’s based on your personal experience. You can email Derek Barry or stop by City Hall on February 9 between 5 and 7 pm to give us your thoughts.

We all need some help now and then to overcome obstacles, and this is the chance for us as a community to look at our roads, sidewalks and facilities and find out how we can collectively help keep everyone participating in our community no matter what challenges they face.
