According to the Pierce County Auditor's office, Michelle Gunn, who was a candidate for the Bonney Lake City Council Ward 3 seat, has withdrawn from the race.

Laurie Anderson from the Public Disclosure Commission said her office received an official withdrawal statement from the auditor's office Friday.

Pierce County Auditor Pat McCarthy said she talked to Gunn last week concerning her withdrawal.

&#8220I asked her if she was sure she wanted to do this,” McCarthy said. &#8220She said, ‘Yes, absolutely.' I always want to make sure.”

McCarthy said Gunn did not give a reason for pulling out of the race and would be submitting a written statement of withdrawal this week.

Gunn could not be reached for comment on the withdrawal by press deadline.

Gunn filed for the office during the first week in June and was running against Laurie Carter for the seat.

McCarthy said Gunn's name will not appear on the Nov. 6 general election ballot since there were only two candidates and they will not be involved in the Aug. 21 primary election.
