Hikers missing on Mount Rainier

The hikers, identified as Ben and Jiri on social media, were reported missing on Jan . 17.

Two hikers have been reporting missing on Mount Rainier.

According to the National Park Service, a search and rescue operation has started to locate “two overdue individuals.”

“Weather conditions limited search efforts yesterday but have improved today, and operations are ongoing,” NPS spokesperson Scott Clemans said.

Although official details are scarce, a post on the r/PNWhiking subreddit on the Reddit social media platform potentially identified the two missing hikers as Ben and Jiri; the Courier-Herald will not publish last names until they can be confirmed by the poster or the NPS.

According to the post, the hikers were last known to be near Wilson Glacier, and were reported missing on Jan. 17; Clemons said the search began yesterday, Jan. 19.
