Pierce County homeowners and homeowner association members are invited to attend a free workshop in August to learn how to prepare their neighborhood stormwater systems for the rainy season.

Homeowners will learn simple steps to maintain storm drains, swales and stormwater ponds located within their neighborhood. Additionally, homeowner associations will learn how planning in advance for routine maintenance can reduce the likelihood of needing more extensive repairs.

“These free workshops will teach homeowners how they can keep their stormwater systems functioning properly, which will help reduce flooding and protect water quality,” said Dan Wrye, Pierce County Public Works and Utilities water quality manager. “We will give them knowledge they can use as the seasons change and nature starts putting the stormwater systems to work.”

The workshops will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the following dates:

· Thursday, Aug. 14: Pierce County Central Maintenance Facility, 4812 196th St. E. in Spanaway

·  Tuesday, Aug. 19: Gig Harbor Civic Center, 3510 Grandview St. in Gig Harbor

Homeowners can register by calling (253) 798-2725, emailing PCwater@co.pierce.wa.us or visiting online.
