Smoke alarms are credited with saving a family after an early morning house fire Sunday.

All five family members escaped the blaze that heavily damaged their single-story home on the 7200 block of 166th Avenue in Sumer.

Firefighters from East Pierce Fire and Rescue were called to the scene at 3:30 a.m. They arrived to the find the bedroom area of the home and the roof engulfed in flames and quickly contained the blaze. No injuries were reported.

The Pierce County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
