IN THE MILITARY: Oster honored by Air Force

Travis Oster was recently honored as the 2011 U.S. Air Force Academy’s Firefighter of the Year. In addition, he received a Service Achievement medal for outstanding service as a firefighter in the Air Force.

Travis Oster was recently honored as the 2011 U.S. Air Force Academy’s Firefighter of the Year. In addition, he received a Service Achievement medal for outstanding service as a firefighter in the Air Force.

His awards were based on volunteer work, academics, professionalism and performance in the line of duty.

Oster is a member of the academy’s Firefighter Combat Challenge team that won the 2011 national championship and placed eighth in the world competition in Myrtle Beach, N.C. In the individual event, he scored a personal-best time of 1 minute, 57 seconds in the obstacle course.

This month, he transferred from Colorado Springs, Colo., to Honduras.

A 2007 graduate of Enumclaw High School, he is the son of Randy and Jody Oster and grandson of Bernie Dunn, all of Enumclaw.
