A new fire station near downtown Black Diamond will be constructed in about a year

Oakpointe Communities (Oakpointe), a real estate and community development company in the Puget Sound region and creator of the Ten Trails master planned community in Black Diamond, Washington, announced that in conjunction with the City of Black Diamond, a groundbreaking on the new Lawson Hills Fire Station at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2 at 26051 Lawson Street in Black Diamond.

Parking for the event will be nearby off Botts Drive.

“This project is something we’ve worked toward for many years to deliver more public services to the growing community of Black Diamond,” said Brian Ross, CEO of Oakpointe. “My hope is that the new fire station will significantly improve fire response times and the residents’ safety for Black Diamond, Washington.”

Lawson Hills Fire Station is owned by the City of Black Diamond and maintained and operated through a contract with Mountain View Fire and Rescue and will work in tandem with the existing Station 98 at Lake Sawyer to cover the entire city of Black Diamond and Mountain View Fire District.

“When the new Lawson Hills Fire Station in Black Diamond is complete and staffed with firefighters, the level of service Mountain View Fire and Rescue will be able to provide to the citizens of Black Diamond and the Ten Trails community will increase. Citizens will see more availability of fire and emergency medical response vehicles and shorter wait times for the fire department responding to calls for service, especially in downtown Black Diamond and adjacent to Highway 169,” said Mountain View Fire and Rescue Chief Dawn Judkins.

The station will be staffed with a team of professional firefighters from Mountain View Fire and Rescue. Oakpointe has chosen Mountain View as the company’s primary designee for donations and fund-raising efforts over the years. The 4,932-square-foot station will feature two apparatus bays for a vehicle in each with the ability to expand to three bays in the future. Construction and preparation for occupancy is expected to take 12 months.
