WorkForce Central grant provides improved job search help

A $208,250 grant from WorkForce Central will provide new and enhanced services for Pierce County job seekers in 2015. The library will expand access to job search classes and workshops, and to its regular technology class offerings. Also included will be a technology training program that combines at-home learning and in-person instruction. All services will be offered free of charge. Board packet (p.49)

Employee compensation study

The board will consider a request for an employee compensation study to be conducted by The Singer Group to determine how the library’s pay and benefits compare to other Northwest organizations. The library conducted its last compensation study in 2007. The cost of the contract is not to exceed $60,000 and, if approved, results would be available this summer. Board packet (p.64)

Chromebooks for onsite checkout at South Hill and Sumner

Cardholders visiting South Hill and Sumner libraries may now check out a Chromebook laptop and browse the Internet as long as they’re on the premises. Most library desktop computers come with a two- or three-hour limit. If successful, the program will be rolled out at other locations. The Chromebooks are secure, durable and have been configured to work only while on library property. Board packet (p.65)
