Library events celebrate the U.S. Open

Pierce County Library is planning a series of events and activities to highlight the 2015 U.S. Open Championship golf tournament at Chambers Bay golf course in University Place. Beginning in March, the library will offer a limited edition library card, book lists and movie tie-ins as well as a miniature golf tournament, a visit with Blaine Newnham and golf-themed gardening, travel, meditation and craft events. The library is working with the City of University Place and Meadow Park Golf Course, Metro Parks. Board packet (p.27-28)

Branch services plans evaluation

In 2013, the library system undertook an annual planning process to understand priorities and needs of each community it serves and examine how each branch location could help those communities meet their goals. Using targeted demographics and market segmentation data, library staff built specific plans for each community as well as systemwide programs and services. In 2014, the library fully executed the plans and will share results with the board. Board packet (p.52-55)

Strategic planning

Work begins this month on the library’s next strategic plan. The library will develop the process and timeline to create an actionable road map that will provide both clear direction and allow flexibility to act quickly in a complex world. The library’s last two long-range efforts— the 2001-2006 Strategic Plan and the 2007-2012 Levy Promises Plan—continue to guide the work of the library today. Board packet (p.41-42)
