SHOPLIFTING: Police on May 13 were dispatched to the liquor store on state Route 410 for a report of a shoplifter. According to store personnel, a man in his 50s attempted to leave the store with a bottle of vodka in his jacket. The man claimed the bottle was his, but an inventory check revealed bottles missing. When the store clerk returned, the man was gone. Police received information from a witness and are investigating.
RESISTING: Officers were dispatched May 13 to the 19600 block of 94th Street East for a report of someone threatening to shoot a neighbor slash his tires. During the incident, the neighbor making threats sat on his porch drinking a beer and refused to go into his residence while swearing at police and calling them “pigs.” After multiple warnings including one that he would be arrested if he failed to comply, one officer reached over the hedge and poked a cigarette from the suspect’s hand, causing him to become irate. As the suspect was shouting at police, officers grabbed the suspect’s wrist and ordered his hands behind his back. The suspect failed to comply and officers took the suspect to the ground. After a brief struggle, he was handcuffed and taken to a police cruiser. According to the report, the suspect said “i’m going to kill that punk.” The suspect was read his rights, responding with an obscenity after each sentence. He was transported to Pierce County Jail and booked for harassment and resisting arrest. During the booking he twice called the booking officer a racial epithet and directed his profanity at a sergeant.
STOLEN PLATE: Police on May 13 were called to the 8400 block of Locust Avenue for a report of a theft of license plate in progress. When police arrived the suspect, and the rear plate, were gone. The plate was entered into the state database as stolen.
FRAUD: Police on May 18 were contacted about fraudulent activity in the amount of $199.38 made on a credit card by an ex-roommate of the reporting party. The reporting party provided police with contact information and police are investigating.
HIT AND RUN: Police May 14 responded to a report of a hit-and-run in the 9900 block of 214th Avenue East. The reporting party was in a restaurant eating and returned to his car to find it damaged. A witness said an unknown sport utility vehicle had collided with the car and was driven away. Police received potential suspect information from the restaurant and are investigating.
ASSAULT: Officers on May 14 were dispatched to the 7400 block of 208th Avenue East for a report of two juvenile females assaulted by a known suspect. The girls were walking down the street when the suspect took a swing at one of the them and then tackled her to the ground. The other victim tried to push the suspect off of the first victim and the suspect then pulled her hair and spit in it. Information was forwarded to Remann Hall for possible charges.
MINOR IN POSSESSION: An off-duty officer was working security at Regal Cinemas May 14 when a passerby informed him of a possible fight involving a group of intoxicated juveniles taking place in the woods. The officer requested backup and when police arrived a juvenile male was located in the woods behind the cinemas. The subject smelled strongly of intoxicants and was slurring his words. He said his parents dropped him off to see a movie, but he went into the woods to drink with friends. The subject said he saw a group of males running into the woods. The subject agreed to a breath test which showed he was in excess of the legal limit. He was released to the custody of his mother who said this was not the first time he was arrested for alcohol consumption. Charges of a being a minor in possession of alcohol were forwarded to Remann Hall and he was trespassed from Regal Cinemas for one year.
PROWL: Police on May 16 were called to the 18700 block of 84th Street East for a report of a vehicle prowl. The victim reported that someone broke into her vehicle and stole an amplifier and subwoofer valued at approximately $1,000. The victim reported leaving her car unlocked. Police are investigating.
SHOPLIFTING: Police on May 15 were called to the Safeway for a report of a shoplifter in custody. The store manager reported seeing an man attempt to leave the store with a case of beer concealed under his jacket. Officers placed the man under arrest and confirmed through video that he did not pay for the beer. The man was cited for theft and trespassed from the store for one year before being released.
STOLEN BOAT?: Police working as a marine patrol unit May 16 were performing courtesy vessel inspections at Allan Yorke Park and discovered a boat whose registration numbers were affixed to a boat the men said belonged to their boss. Police attempted to identify the boat through its identification number, but discovered it had been removed. Police seized the boat for further investigation as a stolen vehicle. A records check revealed the men were telling the truth. The owner said he had purchased the boat in its current condition and did not know fo the missing registration numbers. The boat was released to the employee and the case was closed.
SHOPLIFTING: Police on May 16 were called to the T-Mobile store for a report of six males entering the store and leaving with eight cell phones. Employees reported that earlier in the day a man and woman had entered the store and asked about turning off a phone service. Later, the man returned with five others and spread out to various display cases and began cutting retractor cords that hold display models in place and then left with the phones. The store employee was able to provide suspect information and the case has been forwarded to investigations.
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY: Police responded to a May 17 report of a burglary in the 18300 block of 102nd Street Court East. The victim reported he left his garage door open overnight and discovered several tools, pairs of sneakers and an air compressor missing. Police are investigating.
COUNTERFEIT: A counterfeit $50 bill was turned over to police May 17 by a student at Bonney Lake High School. The student said he received the fake bill from a person in Auburn to whom he sold an iPod. According to an assistant principal, there had been an incident earlier in the week when the student confronted friends of the person who had given him the fake money. All students involved were suspended from the school and the assistant principal said the money changed hands not over the sale of an iPod, but over marijuana. Police placed the fake money into evidence.
DRIVING WHILE DRUGGY: An officer on patrol May 18 witnessed a vehicle on state Route 40 traveling 5 mph slower than the speed limit and drifting across multiple lanes. The officer pulled over the vehicle and the driver – who appeared drowsy, disoriented and impaired – claimed to be having a mechanical problem with the car. The driver admitted to being on prescription pills. The driver failed a series of field sobriety tests, including reciting the alphabet. A search revealed a white pill container in the driver’s purse, but none of the medications, including oxycodone, were labeled or in prescription bottles. The driver was cited for improper lane travel and no valid license and evidence was forwarded to the Pierce County prosecutor for possible charges of possession of oxycodone without a prescription and possible driving under the influence of drugs.
METH: Police on patrol May 18 were randomly checking vehicles and found tabs that had expired. A check of the driver showed his license was suspended. A search of the passenger revealed a glass pipe and a baggy of methamphetermine. The passenger admitted the drugs were his and said he started using when he returned from service in Iraq as a way to deal with post-traumatic stress. The driver was cited for driving with a suspended license, having no insurance and expired tabs. The passenger was transported to Pierce County jail and booked for possession of a controlled substance.
