Mayor urges caution this Independence Day | Bonney Lake

The extremely dry conditions in our city and surrounding area have created a very dangerous environment for the use of fireworks this year. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Wenatchee as they battle wildland/urban interface fires which have already resulted in the loss of homes.

The following is a press release from Mayor Johnson:

The extremely dry conditions in our city and surrounding area have created a very dangerous environment for the use of fireworks this year. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Wenatchee as they battle wildland/urban interface fires which have already resulted in the loss of homes. Although a cause of that fire is still under investigation, it is easy to see that fireworks may be the cause of similar losses in our city.

I ask that illegal fireworks not be used at all in our area, and that the use of legal fireworks be limited to celebration on July 4th because of the hot and dry conditions.

The use of explosives, missiles, bottle rockets and other fireworks that fly are illegal in Bonney Lake and surrounding Pierce County.  I urge all those using fireworks to take precautions to protect the welfare and safety of people and properties within their neighborhoods. Allow the lighting of fireworks only under adult supervision. Use them only over hard surfaces, and submerge used fireworks in a bucket of water.
