Sopranos and altos are being sought to add their voice to the Plateau Women’s Chorale Christmas Choir, as the group prepares for its 2014 “Heart of the  Holidays” concert.

The sole purpose of the Christmas choir is to perform benefit holiday concerts the afternoons of Dec. 6 and 7 in support of the local Neighbors Feeding Neighbors program. All funds collected from donations at the concerts will be provided to the program.

Neighbors Feeding Neighbors is an effort of the Enumclaw Regional Healthcare Foundation, working in partnership with the city’s Senior Activity Center to serve nutritious meals to homebound and socially isolated seniors in the community. The program depends upon donations. Because of the NFN program, Enumclaw is one of a very few communities still able to provide hot meals to seniors.

The choir began last year as a project of the Allegro Women’s Ensemble after a December 2012 benefit concert for NFN raised almost $1,500 and brought increased awareness about NFN to the community. In December 2013 AWE formed the Plateau Women’s Chorale and at the first “Heart of the Holidays” benefit concert raised $3,551; additional donations after the concert raised the total to nearly $4,000.

Rehearsals will be from 7:15 to  9:15 p.m. Mondays, beginning Aug. 25, except Labor Day. There will be one Saturday rehearsal “retreat” in October.

The choir will be directed by Kathee Lundberg, director of the Allegro Women’s Ensemble.
