Now in its 14th year, the Mount Rainier Duathlon comes to Enumclaw on Sunday.

The Enumclaw event serves as USA Triathlon’s national long course duathlon championship. While most of the competitors are from the Puget Sound region, there will be participants from throughout the country.

The large number of competitors will be using country roads in the vicinity of the Enumclaw Expo Center, prompting organizers to ask the public to be cautious on the 28th. Runners and bicyclists will be in abundance.

The event will start at 8 a.m. at the Expo Center. Runners will head to Warner Avenue and cover 276th Avenue Southeast, 284th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 480th before returning to the Expo Center. Participants will then head out on the bike course, pedaling over Warner, turning on Blake and following 464th and 248th onto Mud Mountain Dam Road, which takes them on a loop to state Route 410 and eventually back to the Expo Center.

Participants will finish the event with another run, covering Southeast 456th Street, 276th Avenue Southeast, Southeast 472nd and 284th, where they will run to the finish line at the Expo Center.

Short course participants will run 1.64 miles, bike 14.44 miles and finish with a run of 3.79 miles. Long course competitors will start with a run of 5.12 miles, bike 28.88 miles and finish with the same 3.79-mile run.
