No injuries in Sumner apartment fire | East Pierce Fire & Rescue

No one was injured in an early morning fire that damaged four units at an apartment complex in Sumner. Firefighters from East Pierce Fire and Rescue were called to the complex on the 7200 block of 142nd Avenue East at 7:12 a.m.

No one was injured in an early morning fire that damaged four units at an apartment complex in Sumner yesterday, May 4.

Firefighters from East Pierce Fire and Rescue were called to the complex on the 7200 block of 142nd Avenue East at 7:12 a.m.

According to East Pierce Fire Chief Bud Backer, the fire appeared to have started outside of the ground floor unit near a barbeque.

When the firefighters arrived, the fire was burning up the back side of two apartments and had extended into the attic.

Although firefighters were able to keep the fire from entering any of the units, four apartments were damaged by smoke. There were no reports of injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
