Northstar Chemical environmental impact statement is online now

According to state law, the impact statement must identify mitigation measures that are “reasonable and capable of being accomplished."

Today, the City of Sumner published the Final Environmental Impact Statement for the Northstar Chemical Facility Project. The FEIS includes detailed environmental analysis of the proposed project and any adverse environmental impacts that are probable and significant.  The report then identifies measures that could be taken to mitigate those impacts.

According to state law, the FEIS must identify mitigation measures that are “reasonable and capable of being accomplished.” The FEIS also includes responses to citizen and agency comments that were submitted in 2010 when the Draft Environmental Impact Statement  for this project was released.

The FEIS is available online or at City Hall for purchase, a hard copy for $25 or CD for $2.  Prices are based directly on reproduction costs.  A copy can be reviewed for no cost at the Sumner Pierce County Library, as well as online.

The publication of the FEIS does not indicate an approval or denial of any permits.  As required by State law, the City will review the information in this FEIS and issue a letter stating its decision regarding the project’s denial or the list of mitigation measures that would be applied to project permits.  That letter must be issued no sooner than seven days after publication of the FEIS.  The City anticipates issuance of this Letter of Decision on or about April 27.
