NORMAN HOWELL

Norman Howell, 82, died Aug. 1, 2009.

He was born in Louisville, Ky., to Bertha and Howard Howell. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and served on the U.S.S. Tenn-essee. He was honorably discharged July 25, 1946, at Bremerton, Wash. He was proud of his Cherokee Indian heritage and loved his country. He married Jo Ann Adams April 6, 1957, in Jeffersonville, Indiana. In the early 1960s, he moved his family to Los Angeles, where he owned and operated a commercial painting business until retiring in 1992. He moved to the Enumclaw/Auburn area in 2004 to be closer to his daughter.

He is survived by daughters Robyn Mahoney and husband Shane of Auburn, Kim White of Baldwin Park, Calif., and Connie Recio and husband Ron of Brentwood, Calif; sons Tony Howell and wife Kelley of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Shane Howell of Diamond Bar, Calif.; sisters Doris Allen of Louisville and Doretha Howell Kelly of San Diego; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1999 and grandson Dustin Raineri last year.

SHARON AVERILL

Sharon E. Averill, 70, died Aug. 7, 2009.

She was born Sept. 19, 1938, in St. Maries, Idaho. She lived in Black Diamond for 43 years and was a member of Black Diamond Eagles.

She is survived by children Sharyl Talley and husband Steve of Bonney Lake, Norman Averill Jr. and wife Mary of Kent, Wash., Earl Averill of Black Diamond, Gerry Averill and wife Tammy of Auburn, Terry Helm and husband Mitch of Wendall, Idaho, and Byron Averill of Black Diamond; a sister; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Norman in 2003, three brothers, a sister and a great-granddaughter.

At her request, there were no services.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
