A house fire in the 5500 block of 162nd Avenue East in Sumner overnight resulted in the loss of a home and one hospitalization.

East Pierce Fire & Rescue Assistant Chief Ed Goodlet said the injury was not related to the fire, but was a medical issue.

“It was a challenging fire,” Goodlet said.

He said the home’s location along a narrow road prevented the crew from driving a fire truck nearby. A fire had to be run from the truck to the home which was 1,500 feet away.

Investigators were on the seen Thursday and the fire is under investigation.
