Outstanding SHS seniors honored for efforts, talents

Outstanding graduating seniors from Sumner High School were honored at a Senior Showcase May 27.

Students honored for their exceptional efforts and talents in different areas included Zeric Cage, who made an impression on the basketball court, but also in entrepreneur and international baccalaureate classes. His future plans include attending Bellevue College to study business and then attend the University of Washington.

Josh Cihak played in the band and was a representative, vice president, and is now the president in the band leadership program. Cihak also participated in the international baccalaureate program and plans to attend the University of Washington’s School of Engineering Honors program.

Eric Hanson became involved with Sumner High School’s Associated Student Body in ninth grade and played in the percussion section of the band. His junior year the Sumner Masonic Lodge named him one of Sumner High School’s 10 outstanding juniors. In his spare time, he volunteers at Franklin House, assisting the residents and helping with the décor inside. In the fall he plans to attend Pacific Lutheran University to study psychology and the environment.

Talette Huddleson took an active role in student body government and was involved in the R.S.V.P. committee as a junior. Huddleson was on the Superintendent’s Advisory Council and the school’s leadership council and was soccer team captain this year.

Autumn Hunsperger is a two-year member of the Sumner High School chapter of the National Honor Society and participated in band and international baccalaureate program. After graduating, Hunsperger plans to major in engineering at the University of Portland.

Delaney Knottnerus is one of the salutatorians this year and is pursuing a pre-med degree at the University of Washington’s Tacoma campus in the fall. While in school, she was in the drama program and held leadership positions in National Honor Society and the art club.

Andie Livingston participated in student body leadership class and assisted with coordinating school events. During the last two summers, Livingston volunteered her time to give back to the community.

Dani Van Slyke was a news anchor of KSTV at Sumner High School and is pursuing a career in performance or broadcasting. Besides broadcasting, she is involved in choir and drama. In the fall, she will attend Washington State University and major in broadcast communications and will minor in performance.

Kara Warwick plans to pursue a business degree following graduation and wants to parlay that into a business as a cake decorator, a passion she discovered while doing her senior project.

Rory Zambard completed the highest level of the international baccalaureate program and was captain of the softball team.

Sumner High School’s graduation will begin at 7 p.m. June 11 at the White River Amphitheatre.
