• At approximately midnight Saturday officers responded to a noise complaint coming from a resident on the corner of LaFromboise Street and Roosevelt Avenue regarding his neighbor constantly revving up the engine of his car. By the time police arrived the complainant had already confronted the subject and the twosome were in the midst of a verbal altercation. Cooler heads prevailed and a battle was averted.

Arts Public Meetings Recreation Fire and Rescue Meetings Senior Centers

• Lake Tapps Elementary will host PlayJude Drama, a Friday afternoon drama program for students 6 to 11 years old, from 1:15 to 2:45 p.m. Jan. 9 through Feb. 13. The final performance will take place at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13. Judy Kurtz will direct the musical, "Three of a Kind" – which adds up to bears. The story involves the hilarious search for Baby Bear while each of the cast members listens carefully to come to his rescue. PlayJude Drama will also present "How Does Your Garden Grow?" Feb. 27 through April 3. The cost to enroll is $60. For information, call 253-569-1112.

Greenwood Heights ready for Main Street

The Greenwood Heights development at Main Street (or 184th Street East) and Sumner-Buckley Highway will begin the first phase of building sometime in 2009, according to Bonney Lake city officials.

Thanks to food drive efforts of students from Bonney Lake and Sumner high schools, the Bonney Lake and Bread of Life food banks reaped a harvest of hospitality for the holiday season.

• Officers stopped a 29-year-old man driving a Toyot

• Officers stopped a 29-year-old man driving a Toyota 4Runner at 11:43 p.m. Dec. 25 in the 23300 block of state Route 410 East. The man was found to have a felony warrant out for his arrest for escape from community custody in Olympia. During a search of the vehicle a syringe filled with a liquid was found. The man said it was either heroine or cocaine. The man was booked into the Pierce County jail.

We have a growing homelessness issue on the Plateau, reported Kimberly Fish, director of Plateau Outreach Ministries, to a recent gathering of area pastors and church leaders. Kimberly’s report told me that my children have classmates who don’t have a warm, safe place to go home at night. “Home” is a tent. Or a car. And that the concern is growing as people struggle to find – or keep – jobs.
