The first annual Prairie Ridge Parks Appreciation day is set for Saturday, April 26.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., volunteers can come help at the 128th St. family park.

The main focus will be that park but if there are more than enough volunteers, some will go to the other community park and work there.

Starting at 9 a.m., volunteers can meet at the Community Service Center for assignments and for a shuttle to take them to the worksite.

Volunteers can continue to arrive at any time at the CSC and a shuttle will run until 1 p.m.

There is limited parking at the park but if you are bringing a lot of equipment, you will be able to park at the park once you’ve checked in at the Community Service Center.

Coffee, hot cocoa, cider, water and snacks will be provided and a free lunch will also be provided thanks to the Calvary Community Church.

Tasks that hope to accomplished:
  • Spreading play-chips underneath the play equipment, providing a safer area for our children to play.
  • Create edges around the equipment to hold the play-chips (bring a shovel, metal rake or a “claw tool” if you have one).  Ron from Ron’s Tree Service is helping with this part of the project.
  • Cleaning picnic tables and the cement underneath each one as well as the basketball courts (bring a stiff shop broom or a scraper if you have one).
  • Cutting blackberry bushes, raking leaves, and picking up fallen limbs along the fence line at entrance (bring a clippers, leaf rake, and/or wheelbarrow).
  • Weeding the planter oval at the entrance (bring hand tools).
  • Weather permitting, we will be giving our picnic tables, benches, and trash receptacles a fresh coat of paint (wear paint clothes)
  • Volunteers and time permitting, we will do work at Rec Hall Park, including laying play-chips, removing two older flowerbeds, and cleaning-up picnic tables.

What to bring:
  • Gloves to protect hands
  • Any tools that will help facilitate accomplishing our goals this year
  • A water bottle
  • Dress appropriate for the weather

All are welcome to join this event and help out.
